TechAtlas Privacy Statement

This privacy statement discloses the privacy practices for TechAtlas. TechAtlas is a project of NPower, a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization committed to building and sustaining the technology capacity of nonprofit organizations. While we promise not to rent, sell or give the specific information you provide to anyone else without your explicit permission, we may aggregate information entered by users to create reports regarding the general state of the nonprofit sector and to plan services and tools that will benefit nonprofits. In any report, the information used will not be associated with any specific nonprofit. In addition, NPower has access to the data for administrative purposes necessary to run the project.

Partner Program (Click here for more information on the Partner Program)

TechAtlas Partners are typically organizations or individuals you turn to for assistance of some kind. Anyone can become a Partner but only you get to select and delete your Partners. Partners can view your data in accordance to TechAtlas's Terms and our Privacy Statement below. Partners can  edit your data through the system depending on the privileges you assign them.  At no time are we responsible for the actions of any Partners you select directly or indirectly.

1. Information Collection and Use

TechAtlas collects information from our users at several different points on our website. While your organization owns the data entered into TechAtlas, we will not sell, share, or rent this information to others in ways different from what is disclosed in this statement.

2. TechAtlas Registration

In order to use TechAtlas features, a user must first complete an organizational profile form.  Users are required to give their contact information (name and email address). This information is used to contact the user about the topics on our site in which they have expressed interest and for the user to receive their lost password. It is optional for the user to provide demographic information (annual budget, service sector, number of employees, etc.). Demographic information is used to understand trends in technology at nonprofits. In addition, users may be contacted by Partners they have selected regarding assistance with their technology.

3. Cookies

"Cookies" are software code frequently used in customizable websites. TechAtlas uses cookies to remember if a user has logged in while he/she is on our site. This allows TechAtlas users to avoid logging in more than once, thereby saving time. Users have the option of disabling or not accepting cookies by changing the preferences on their web-browsing software*. If a user opts not to enable cookies, he/she will not be able to use our website. No personally identifiable information (name, agency name etc.) is collected with the cookies that we set, and accepting cookies while on the TechAtlas site will not put the user at risk for marketing to other sites.

*Different browsers have different cookie-settings. With Netscape you can ask the browser to allow, warn you, or completely disable cookies. Internet Explorer has an additional feature where you can specify different settings for different security zones. You can choose to allow websites to create cookies for you in your "trusted sites" (like TechAtlas), to warn you before you create them in your local Intranet zone, and to give you an option to never allow them in a "restricted zone." See the "Help" section of your particular browser for more information on working with cookies.

4. Sharing

NPower will share aggregated demographic information with partners, sponsors, and those interested in the use of technology at nonprofits. This is not linked to any information that can identify an individual organization. We only share this information so that we can highlight trends in the use of technology at nonprofits and demonstrate the need for new tools and services for nonprofits.

TechAtlas Partners are allowed to share aggregated information as well, but agree not to reveal organization data from TechAtlas accounts without the express consent of the organization.

5. Links

This website contains links to other sites. Please be aware that TechAtlas does not claim any responsibility for the privacy practices of other such sites including Partners. We encourage our users to be aware when they leave our site and to read the privacy statements of each and every website that collects personally identifiable information. This privacy statement applies solely to information collected by this website.

6. Security

This website takes every precaution to protect our users' information, and we have security measures in place to protect the loss, misuse, and alteration of the information under our control. While we take security seriously, we cannot guarantee that TechAtlas won't have a security breech.

7. Updates

We may send you site and service announcement updates. Members are not able to unsubscribe from service announcements that contain important information about the service. We communicate with the user to provide requested services and to handle issues related to their account via email or phone.

8. Correction/Updating Agency Information

If a user's agency information changes (such as address or email address), or if a user no longer desires our service, we will endeavor to provide a way to correct, update, or remove that user's agency data provided to us. Users can currently use the "My Organization Profile" section from the TechAtlas Planning Center to change or correct information.

9. Notification of Change

If we decide to change our privacy policy, we will post those changes on our website so our users are always aware of what information we collect, how we use it, and under what circumstances, if any, we disclose it. If at any point we decide to use identifiable information in a manner different from that stated at the time it was collected, we will notify users by way of an email. Users will have a choice as to whether or not we use their information in this different manner. We will use information in accordance with the privacy policy under which the information was collected.
